Overview
The Manaslu Trek starts from the town of Machha Khola and culminating in the drive back to Kathmandu from Dharapani. The journey begins with a scenic drive along the Prithvi Highway to Machha Khola, followed by daily treks that gradually ascend through picturesque landscapes and charming villages. Each day offers unique experiences, from crossing suspension bridges and rivers to encountering local wildlife and visiting monasteries.
As you progress, the trail becomes more challenging, with steep ascents and descents, particularly as you approach and cross the Larkya La Pass. The trek provides ample opportunity for acclimatization, ensuring a safe and enjoyable adventure. Accommodations are in teahouses or lodges, offering a glimpse into the local lifestyle and hospitality.

Typical Itinerary
Start early morning, the drive goes along the Prithvi Highway on well paved road until Dhading Besi. The drive is quite scenic passing through green hill, terraced fields, small villages and markets. After Dhading the landscape becomes even more scenic and the drive gets bumpy as this part of the drive is over unpaved graveled road all the way to Machha Khola. Overnight in Machha Khola.
We cross over Machha Khola and head upstream to the tiny village of Khorla Bensi and the hot springs at Tatopani. The trekking trail is quite exposed and challenging in some places, after a short section of forest trail we arrive at Dovan. From Dovan it is a gradual uphill climb and then cross over the suspension bridge and arrive at Jagat. Overnight in Jagat.
The trail descends down to the river over a series of stone steps to the river and then ascends to the village of Salleri. After crossing the Budi Gandaki , from Ghatte Khola the trail winds up to Philim and passes through several small settlements like Aga, Lokwa and Sirdibas and finally to Deng village. Overnight in Deng.
Start your day with a trek through the lush landscapes, beginning with a gentle climb out of Deng. The trail winds through dense forests and crosses several suspension bridges, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. As you pass through the charming villages of Rana and Bihi Phedi, you'll witness the unique culture and lifestyle of the local communities. Continue ascending to the village of Namrung, where you can enjoy stunning vistas and experience the warm hospitality of the locals. Overnight in Namrung.
Embark on a scenic trek from Namrung, passing through lush forests and charming villages, each offering a glimpse into the unique culture of the region. As you climb higher, enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks, including Manaslu and Himalchuli. The trail meanders through the villages of Lihi and Lho, where you can explore ancient monasteries and interact with the friendly locals. Continue your journey to the picturesque village of Shyala, surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas. Overnight in Shyala.
Today's trek offers spectacular views as you make your way from Shyala to Samagaun. The trail gently ascends through alpine forests and open meadows, with stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks. Pass through the charming village of Sama, where traditional Tibetan culture thrives. As you approach Samagaun, enjoy the sight of the majestic Manaslu towering above. Spend the afternoon exploring the village and visiting the ancient Pungyen Gompa. Overnight in Samagaun
This day is for acclimatization however you do not stay in the teahouse, you will hike to the stunning Manaslu Base Camp (4900m) which provide great view of the Manaslu glacier and you will also visit the Birendra Lake on your way back to the teahouse. Overnight in Samagaun.
Begin your trek with a gradual ascent from Samagaun to the village of Samdo, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. The trail takes you through yak pastures and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Upon arrival in Samdo, take some time to rest and acclimatize. In the afternoon, embark on an excursion to Samdo Ri for panoramic views of the Himalayas, offering a rewarding experience of the region's natural beauty. Overnight in Samdo.
After breakfast, you will leave Samdo and start your trek towards Dharmasala. The trail ascends gradually, passing through rugged terrain and offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trek to Dharmasala is relatively short but crucial for acclimatization before crossing the Larkya La Pass. Upon arrival in Dharmasala, you can rest and prepare for the challenging day ahead, surrounded by the breathtaking Himalayan landscape.
Today we climb over the ridge beside the large lateral moraine of the Larkya glacier, the climb is long and tiring over the top of the moraine. It takes about 8-9 hours of long climbing and descend to cross the Larkya pass marked by prayer flags. After we reach the top, we can have the magnificent view of snowy peaks of Himlung Himal (7,126m), Cheo Himal (6,820m), Gyagi Kung, Kang Kuru (6,981m) and the Annapurna II (7,937m) standing in front of us. After this, we descend to Bhimtang walking over steep paths. Overnight in Bhimtang
Start your day with a descent from Bhimtang, enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and lush landscapes. The trail takes you through dense forests of rhododendron and pine, offering glimpses of the diverse flora and fauna of the region. As you continue, pass through charming villages like Tilije and cross several suspension bridges over glistening rivers. Finally, reach Dharapani, where you can relax and reflect on the incredible journey. Overnight in Dharapani.
Embark on a scenic drive back to Kathmandu in a private jeep, enjoying the changing landscapes as you descend from the mountains. The journey offers views of terraced fields, rushing rivers, and traditional villages, providing a last glimpse of the stunning beauty of the region. Arrive in Kathmandu and check into your hotel, where you can relax and unwind after the long journey. Overnight in Ramada Hotel.
